I think the only way I am going to get really good web design is practice.. so in the holidays I am going to make my own website.
They have fixed it now so I am able to post… the guy said he had no idea why it happened. anyways heres my stuff:
You know what annoys me….. well how every thing has to be spelt American way when coding, after doing so much coding I feel that now I have started spelling colour as color.. its horrible
Rational- Website
This was probably the most difficult and stressful assignment that I have gone through- nothing went as planned. I struggle with web-hosting, codes and css. I think I had difficulties on every aspect of this assignment. I am however, very much satisfied with my end result, after such a struggle. The kind of theme I wanted for my website was for it to have a grungy feel like the festival. After researching music sites I found that usually the images were random, and had nothing to do with the actual music. I think I chose to do vines because it does have atleast some similarity to music. I think displaying music in a theme or image is very difficult. I first did my design draft in illustrator so I could illustrate using the pen tool. I converted it to a gif file using photoshop. The main aim of my website was to make it long running and centred- I find this to be the most easiest to read and follow. I achieved a theme by having the same background image on each page and using a green, black and grey colour-scheme. At first I started using the program dream weaver but later downloaded coda and textmate- I found coda and dream weaver to be very similar. I wanted to have my navigation-menu run horizontally along the top of the website- because research had shown this to be the most common and effective. I wanted to keep the menu very simple and straight forward because the background image is so complex and all over the shot. I chose in my website to use a sans-serif font because it portrays a modern sense and compliments the grungy theme well. I used either white or grey for the text, because I these were pretty much the only colours that show through the black. I did attempt green however it did not stand out well and became part of the background. I think the design is effective for the target audience and think navigation is easy to follow.
Rational- Blog theme
In the beginning I wanted my blog theme to use a lot of white space and be very simple, however after discovering that there was already a default theme of this: I changed my mind. So then I decided that I wanted to make it a little moody. I have done this by using an image that I have painted of a city scape. I first painted the image, then made layers by scanning in ink painting that I had done to create this effect. I wanted to keep the blog theme similar to the default blog- so it would be easy to follow and I think the default layout is very effective. I changed it to how I wanted it, by making the background of the blog wider and a black colour so it ties in well with the background image. I uploaded the image onto the net so I could link it to my blog using photobucket. I also changed the colour-scheme to black and red, because this is a historically effective combination. I aligned the blog header toward the right to balance out with the rest of the blog. I made the date-colours in black so they appear as if they are connected with the background. I also moved the search/ navigation tool toward the right so it was off the background and changed the colour to work with the theme. I have uploaded examples of posts- so you can get an idea of what my blog would actually look-like. I used tumblur because wordpress would not let you create a theme, and tumblur was the easiest to use out of the blogs. I am really happy with my blog theme and think it all works together well:D
I kinda wish we had of done the blog theme first because I found I learned a lot from this assignment
I find that working on the internet I get so distracted.. i have to stop myself form going on different websites gah so annoying
